Payment giant Stripe has been actively making moves. According to the latest market reports, the company has finalized a major deal, planning to acquire AI aggregation gateway startup OpenRouter for over $7 billion.

As a leading AI infrastructure service provider, OpenRouter mainly provides model routing services to enterprises and developers, helping users flexibly choose the most suitable AI models based on specific task requirements and budgets. In May of this year, the company just completed a $113 million Series B funding round, with an valuation reaching $1.3 billion at that time. Its backer list is impressive, including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Capital G, part of Alphabet, among other top-tier institutions.

When talking about its positioning, OpenRouter once compared itself to Stripe in the AI field. Its core value lies in integrating multiple systems through a single access point, offering customers diverse choices and effectively avoiding vendor lock-in. The platform currently has around 8 million users worldwide and has integrated more than 400 different AI models.

Although media outlets had previously reported that both sides were in deep discussions about a potential acquisition, with the latest news emerging, the scale of this transaction far exceeded market expectations. However, when approached by reporters for confirmation, representatives from the companies stated that they would not comment on market rumors and speculations.
