According to CNBC, OpenAI's Chief Financial Officer, Sara Ferial, revealed to employees during a company-wide meeting on Wednesday local time that the company plans to go public in 2027, and may even enter the public market earlier if business development continues to be positive.
According to sources, Ferial said in the meeting that the IPO is not the end for the company, but an important milestone in the future financing and development process. She mentioned that OpenAI has already completed a $12.2 billion financing round this year, which provides significant operational space for the company's subsequent business expansion.

It is understood that OpenAI submitted its IPO prospectus documents confidentially to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in June this year, but the specific listing timetable has not been announced yet. At the same time, competitor Anthropic has also submitted related documents to regulatory authorities confidentially and has started preliminary communication with potential investors to assess market reaction.
Ferial said in the meeting that OpenAI will proceed with its listing plan according to its own pace and will not be affected by competitors' schedules. She revealed that both companies have completed their confidential filings, and Anthropic may lift the confidentiality in the coming weeks and could potentially list on the capital market as early as September.
As the generative AI industry enters a phase of accelerated commercialization, leading AI companies are expanding their computing power investments and technological R&D capabilities through financing and going public. The competition between OpenAI and Anthropic in terms of model capabilities, enterprise services, and capital market performance will become an important point to watch for the future development of AI.
