Trust Crisis: Data Retention Policies Raise Concerns
The incident was triggered by a policy change at Anthropic earlier this year. The policy allows its Fable model to retain customer data for up to 30 days to detect misuse. Although Anthropic repeatedly emphasized that the retained information would never be used for training the model, many corporate clients were unwilling to take the risk, choosing instead to isolate sensitive information and handle it separately.
Major Players Respond: Diversified Isolation Strategies
Faced with potential data security risks, major corporate clients have taken various measures:
NVIDIA: Strictly limits the use of the Fable model to lower sensitivity projects (such as open-source software development), while directing its most confidential business entirely to its own proprietary Nemotron model.
Booz Allen Hamilton: This U.S. defense contractor has implemented similar restrictions and further requested stricter contractual protection terms.
C Spire: This telecom operator has signed agreements with both OpenAI and Anthropic prohibiting the use of its data for training, but also noted that existing contracts still allow the collection of technical usage information.
Novo Nordisk: This pharmaceutical giant has adopted a more cautious strategy, continuing to use Claude for some routine tasks while completely prohibiting the input of any proprietary data into the model.
