Starbucks is considering bringing AI technology into its drive-thru service to improve order accuracy and service efficiency. According to a Bloomberg report on October 30, Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol said during an analyst conference call on Thursday local time that the company plans to test an AI model running in the background to help baristas enter customer orders more accurately and efficiently.

The technology is designed to reduce the operational burden on employees when processing orders, allowing baristas to focus more on interacting with customers while shortening ordering and service times. In addition, Starbucks is also researching a customer recognition system that can identify participating consumers when they arrive at a store, automatically display a personalized digital menu, and simplify the payment process.
This move shows that Starbucks is trying to extend AI from back-end operations to offline consumer scenarios, optimizing the in-store experience through intelligent order processing, identification, and personalized services. As AI technology gradually enters the retail and restaurant industries, how to improve service efficiency while also balancing user experience and data privacy will become an issue that relevant companies need to address.
