OpenAI announced the launch of a new audio-visual generation model called Sora2, and simultaneously launched a social application named Sora, aiming to allow users to easily generate personalized videos. Compared to the Sora model released last year, Sora2 performs better in following physical laws, producing more realistic and natural videos. Although the app is currently in an invitation-only registration phase, OpenAI has shared some impressive demonstration cases.

In the demonstrations of Sora2, multiple scenarios were shown, including beach volleyball, skateboard stunts, and diving activities. Unlike traditional video generation models, Sora2 can generate video scenes based on real-world physical laws. For example, when a user requests a scene of a basketball player missing a shot, Sora2 will accurately show the basketball bouncing off the backboard, rather than making the ball "teleport" into the basket. This improvement greatly enhances the realism of the videos.

The Sora app includes a feature called "Cameos," which allows users to upload their own image and embed it into any scene generated by Sora. Users need to upload a single piece of media containing both audio and video to complete identity verification, which captures personal physical characteristics. At the same time, users can authorize friends to use their image in their videos, even creating videos with multiple people in the same frame.

Currently, the Sora app is available for download on iOS, but initially only in the United States and Canada. OpenAI stated that it plans to quickly expand the app to other regions. Although registration currently requires an invitation code, ChatGPT Pro subscribers can experience the Sora2Pro model without an invitation. User-generated videos can be shared within the app's feed, which resembles short video platforms like Instagram Reels.

To ensure user safety, OpenAI has implemented strict protective measures during the launch of the social platform. Users can revoke others' permission to use their image at any time, but they still need to be cautious about the risk of misuse of authorization. In addition, the Sora app provides parental control features, allowing parents to manage their children's usage and ensure safety.

OpenAI stated that the Sora app will be freely available at its initial launch to allow users to explore its functions freely. In the future, OpenAI may charge users who need additional video generation during high-demand periods.
