In the field of artificial intelligence, OpenAI and Oracle recently announced a major collaboration, with both parties increasing their investment in the "Stargate" initiative, aiming to build more data centers in the United States. This partnership aims to meet the growing demand for computing power and accelerate the rapid development of AI technology.

According to insiders, OpenAI will rent a large amount of computing power from Oracle's data centers, which is expected to use about 4.5 gigawatts of electricity. The scale of energy consumption of this data center is equivalent to providing power for millions of American households. To help readers better understand, 1 gigawatt of power generation capacity is equivalent to a nuclear reactor, which can supply electricity for about 750,000 households.

The background of the "Stargate" initiative is a joint investment project announced by President Trump in January this year. OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle are among the main investors, along with the Abu Dhabi Investment Group MGX. The project plans to invest up to $50 billion over the next four years to build AI computing servers, accelerating technological innovation.

As a leader in the cloud computing industry, Oracle has been actively expanding its cloud business in recent years, especially targeting AI customers. This strategy has led to a 5% increase in Oracle's stock price on Wednesday, and a nearly 38% increase this year. The growth of its cloud business is undoubtedly a key factor driving the stock price increase.

To respond to OpenAI's computing needs, Oracle also plans to build new data centers in multiple states across the United States, including Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. At the same time, the power capacity of the Abilene data center will be expanded from the current 1.2 gigawatts to about 2 gigawatts. OpenAI is also considering establishing new centers in New Mexico, Georgia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Additionally, Oracle recently signed a cloud computing contract worth up to $3 billion, an amount three times the annual revenue of its current infrastructure business. Although the customer's identity remains undisclosed, it is reported that the latest agreement between OpenAI and Oracle is included in this contract.

Through this collaboration, OpenAI and Oracle will jointly promote the development of artificial intelligence, laying a solid foundation for future technological advancements through the "Stargate" initiative.
