According to a new report released by the research firm Counterpoint Research, the rapid development of artificial intelligence is driving unprecedented growth in the global semiconductor market. The report predicts that as physical AI and agent AI rise, the global chip market's revenue is expected to exceed $1 trillion in the coming years. This figure is nearly twice the current market size, with market revenue expected to reach $656 billion by 2024.

The report points out that we are currently in the second phase of developing artificial intelligence infrastructure. In this phase, applications such as conversational AI, semantic search, and multimedia content generation are growing rapidly. These new technologies are increasing the demand for computing, memory, and network resources. Additionally, the basic text applications from the first phase are gradually shifting towards multimodal generative AI that processes images, audio, and video.

Niel Shah, Vice President of Research at Counterpoint Research, stated that future physical AI will mark the third wave of infrastructure development. With the rise of industrial robots, humanoid robots, and smart vehicles, semiconductor chips will become indispensable. These chips will be widely used in GPUs, memory, smartphones, and other AI infrastructure components.

By 2030, servers will make a significant contribution to the trillion-dollar revenue, with the market size expected to grow from $153 billion in 2024 to $464 billion. Meanwhile, smartphone revenue currently stands at $172 billion and is expected to increase to $259 billion in the coming years.

Technology companies are investing heavily in developing AI data centers and infrastructure. For example, Amazon's robotics team has established a team focused on physical AI and launched its first tactile robot. Additionally, NVIDIA showcased the new Blackwell Ultra GPU, designed specifically for large-scale AI inference and agent AI workloads.

In the future, one-quarter of laptop shipments will feature generative AI as a selling point, with tech giants like Google, Samsung, and Apple actively expanding their presence in this area. As revenue sources change, the future market will focus more on AI-driven applications and services to achieve higher profits.
