Global renowned robotics company Boston Dynamics has undergone a major leadership change. Robert Playter, the CEO who has worked at the company for 30 years, announced in an internal memo on Tuesday that he will officially step down from his position as CEO.

Robert Playter's career has almost coincided with the growth history of Boston Dynamics. He joined the company in 1992, holding key positions such as Vice President of Engineering and Chief Operating Officer, and took over as CEO from founder Marc Raibert in 2020. During his tenure, Boston Dynamics successfully brought the quadruped robot Spot to the commercial market and recently released its highly anticipated next-generation humanoid robot Atlas.

Boston Dynamics has changed hands several times since its establishment, being acquired successively by Alphabet (the parent company of Google) and SoftBank Group, and is currently controlled by the Hyundai Motor Group of South Korea. It is reported that during the search for a permanent successor, the current Chief Financial Officer Amanda McMaster will temporarily take over the role of CEO.
