Anthropic recently announced a new decision. The company plans to officially remove access to its most powerful AI model, Claude Fable5, from existing subscription services after July 7, 2026.
This move means that core features previously included in membership benefits will be removed. For developers and core users who are used to unlimited usage with monthly or annual subscriptions, future usage costs may see a significant increase.
Removal of Export Restrictions and Global Re-deployment
Previously, the U.S. Department of Commerce just lifted export restrictions on two high-end AI models, Fable and Mythos. Thanks to the policy relaxation, Anthropic had originally planned to fully offer Fable5 services across major platforms globally.
However, due to the extremely high and unpredictable demand for this model worldwide, the official had to urgently put a stop to the plan. In order to maintain the stability of the server ecosystem, the official finally decided to switch it to an integral billing model based on actual usage.
Developers Caught in Controversy and Official Statements
After the new rules were implemented, there was a huge controversy within the community, and many subscription users expressed dissatisfaction with this "de facto price increase." In response, a core engineer from Anthropic publicly responded on a social platform, trying to ease user anxiety.
The official stated that although the model would be temporarily removed from subscription systems such as Pro, Max, and Team after July 7, they would try to re-introduce it into the existing subscription system as soon as possible, provided that server capacity allows.
