According to reports, John Trenor, Apple's head of hardware engineering, will officially take over as CEO on September 1, with artificial intelligence becoming his top priority during his tenure. Apple previously announced that current CEO Tim Cook will transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board, with Trenor taking over as CEO.
Trenor has 25 years of experience in hardware product development and has been involved in the development of products such as Mac, iPad, AirPods, and iPhone. Analysts believe that he will face challenges such as Apple's relatively lagging AI development, slowing growth in service business, and rising supply chain costs after taking office. According to tech journalist Mark Gurman, Apple plans to fully launch the new version of Siri AI in September and continue to push forward a series of AI hardware products, including smart home devices capable of identifying users and providing personalized content, camera-equipped AirPods with environmental awareness capabilities, and smart glasses.
At the same time, Trenor is also promoting the use of AI in product development, hardware testing, and device reliability improvements, meaning that AI may further penetrate Apple's internal R&D and production processes.
Notably, Apple has confirmed that it will hold a new product launch event on September 9, which will be its first major product release activity after Trenor becomes CEO. The market expects the first foldable iPhone to make an appearance.
