According to reports, Elon Musk recently posted on a social media platform, expressing his views on Japan's severe population issues. He pointed out that Japan's population will decrease by nearly 1 million this year, and the root of this trend was already set half a century ago, unrelated to the development of artificial intelligence. He emphasized, "Artificial intelligence is the only hope to reverse this situation."
Musk's remarks align with data released by Japanese authorities. According to statistical data published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on July 6, as of January 1, 2025, the population of Japan, excluding foreigners residing in Japan, has been declining for the 16th consecutive year. The total population is approximately 120.65 million, a decrease of about 908,000 compared to last year, marking the largest drop since records began in 1968.
Data shows that from early 2024 to early 2025, the number of births in Japan reached a historical low, while the number of deaths reached a new high, further exacerbating the trend of population decline. Musk's comments offer a controversial solution to the population challenges faced by Japan and the world.
