Social media platform Reddit sent a strong signal during its fourth-quarter earnings call: the company is positioning AI-driven search as its next core growth area. Reddit plans to integrate traditional search with generative AI deeply, not only to enhance user experience but also to tap into significant commercial monetization potential.
During the earnings call, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman emphasized that for complex queries without standard answers that require considering multiple perspectives, Reddit has the most unique advantage on the web. Unlike traditional search, which acts more like a "navigation tool," large language models (LLMs) can directly help users organize logic. This strategy has already shown results: over the past year, weekly active users on Reddit search increased from 60 million to 80 million, and the active users of its AI search feature Reddit Answers jumped from 1 million in early 2025 to 15 million by year-end.
To further retain users, Reddit announced that starting in the third quarter of 2026, it will eliminate differences in experience between logged-in and non-logged-in users. Through AI and machine learning technologies, the system will provide personalized content recommendations for every visitor, ensuring that both registered and unregistered users receive the most relevant answers. Meanwhile, the company is testing a more multimodal AI response interface, and future search results will no longer be limited to text but will include richer media content.
In addition to internal ecosystem development, Reddit's data value continues to be realized. Its content licensing business (allowing other companies to use Reddit data to train AI models) is growing steadily, driving an increase in non-advertising revenue. The financial report shows that "other revenue" reached $140 million in 2025, up 22% year-over-year. Reddit is transforming years of community discussions into important production resources in the AI era through this approach.
